Creating a society...

Newsletter

Greetings,

Delaire RoweMy name is Delaire Rowe. I began work as executive director of VSA Kentucky June 1, 2010. Like many of you who knew Ginny Miller, I still mourn her passing. I miss her everyday and wish she were here to ask her advice. I previously worked with Ginny as a Teaching Artist and as Visual Arts Coordinator of VSA Kentucky before taking my present position. I am grateful to have known her and value those times.

My educational background includes a BFA in painting and drawing from Indiana University and an MFA in painting and drawing from Brooklyn College, City University of New York. I have owned and operated a small business called Delaire Rowe Art Studio for 20 years, taught in the Department of Art and Department of Consumer Sciences at Western Kentucky University, worked as an artist in residence for the Kentucky Arts Council in schools across Kentucky, as well as, Community Artist in Residence at the Kentucky Museum in Bowling Green.

There are many new challenges in my role as executive director and each day presents new questions and tasks that require decisions and actions necessary to meet them. As an artist, I learned a process for creating and critiquing artwork. Work from large to small, from a foundation to details, understanding before judgment. Therefore, I remind myself to look at the big picture and the purpose of VSA Kentucky, to help create a society where people with disabilities can learn through, participate in, and enjoy the arts. My job is to serve that purpose. I am building networks and learning more about the operations of a nonprofit organization everyday. Understanding where we are today clears the way for where we are going tomorrow and the next day. My strategy is to plan and be willing to make adjustments as needed in order to meet that objective.

I want to thank those of you who have supported VSA Kentucky through the years and encourage you to continue to help us in our efforts to provide arts education and inclusion programs for children and adults with disabilities throughout the state by offering an under-served population equal opportunity to explore the arts in ways that are fully accessible. I also want to invite you who are new to VSA Kentucky to join us in a worthwhile and life affirming cause.

Sincerely,
Delaire Rowe
